Buying a Double Buggy 3 Wheels
The versatile single-to-double buggy comes with 17 different configurations for seating and sleeping kids from newborn to toddler and the third option with iCandy's "piggy back' board. It is also one of the most slim double strollers and is able to fit through doors as a single pushchair.
It's a lightweight and compact stroller with an easy to use fold that can be completed one-handed. It is also suitable for various terrains and comes with a handy shopping bag.
Adaptability
There are a lot of things to consider when buying a double stroller. You'll want to ensure that your children are safe, comfortable and happy as you discover new routes and attractions. It is important to consider the price and size, weight and the durability. Picking a trusted brand (within budget) will maximize resale and make the purchase process easier.
Based on the number of children you have to carry, there are two main kinds of double buggy 3 wheels: front-facing and side-by-side. Side-by-side buggies tend to be smaller than front-facing designs but tend to have a larger footprint. However, there are some super-smart models on the market that are able to reduce their size, like the Mountain Buggy Duet. It is the tiniest side-by-side buggy on the market and it even fits into doorways that are narrow!
Tandem buggies are generally larger. They are designed as a single stroller but can be adjusted by adapters to accommodate a second seat, or carrycot. Some tandem buggies are able to accommodate twins, a toddler and a baby, or a newborn because of their innovative seat configurations. One example is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 which can be converted into a triple with the addition of the optional 'Piggy Back' board.
The iCandy Orange tandem buggy is another smart tandem buggy with the unique 'cinema seat' design. It allows you to adjust the rear seat so that your children can be seated in different positions. This allows you to choose from a range of 30 seating options and is ideal for parents who have young children at very different stages in development.
The phil&teds sports is also a good option. This award-winning buggy is a world first that will help protect your wallet in the near future. It starts out as a brilliant single and can be upgraded to accommodate two (or three!) as your family grows - all within the same footprint of one buggy! This is possible thanks to the innovative sling seat that's perfect for newborns and offers the best maneuverability, stability and the ability to pop kerbs.
Manoeuvrability
Generally speaking the double buggy with 3 wheels are more easy to handle and manoeuvre than double pushchairs with 4 wheels. The front wheels are smaller and less wide which results in a lighter weight. This means that they can be pushed more easily and will also be easier to move up and down kerbs.
Mountain Buggy Duet is a great illustration. This is the slimmest tandem buggy available and has the same footprint as a single stroller. This makes it ideal for parents worried about fitting in doorways or on public transport. Additionally, the fact that it can also accommodate twins or two car seats/car carrycots makes it a great option right from birth.
Another alternative is the UPPAbaby Vista 2. This is a great lightweight buggy that's ideal for urban life, but also able to ride on uneven or rough terrain. It can be used by twins, or even toddlers due to its large rear wheels and four-wheel suspension. 3 wheel buggy makes it easy to lift and carry. The only drawback is that it's slightly harder to manage than other models on uneven ground.
Comfort
If you plan to utilize your buggy for long walks or jogs it's worth spending more for one that is able to handle the rough terrain. Look for a 3-wheeled model with large rear wheels that can withstand the bumps and a suspension system to absorb shocks. The front wheels should be mounted ideally to give you better control over rough terrain and allow you to easily push through corners.
Double buggys that are good for two children will give you the flexibility to adjust the seats to ensure that both children be at ease. The best choices have reclining seats and adjustable footrests for older children. You'll have plenty of space to store your shopping keys, phone, and keys.
Another thing to look out for is a smooth fold mechanism. Our Lab experts prefer models with straps under the seats that can pull the buggy apart or a lever to open a catch that folds the frame in half, taking just a second or two. Some models can fold with the seat removed which makes them smaller when not in use.
The Mountain Buggy Duet is an award-winning side-by-side which offers great flexibility for siblings or twins. Its innovative frame expands widthways to take the second seat (or carrycot) and still has the same footprint as a single buggy which means it can be pushed through doors and public transport. It's heavier than some other models but its smooth ride and easy handling make more up for it.
3 wheel pushchair is another popular side-by-side model that has 30 seating configurations to suit all needs. It's an excellent choice for twins, since the seats can be positioned to face the parents and transform into an iCandy tandem pushchair.
The Joie Evalite Duo is a lightweight three-wheel option that's ideal for use in everyday life. It's not as big or more expensive than other models but its small turning radius and fixed front wheel mean it's trickier to manoeuvre through kerbs and up and down. It's easy to push and can also be used as a running buggy with the addition of a separate child carrier for running.
Safety
phil&teds sport can take 2 children in a variety of ways, from infant to toddler using their car seat adapters or twin kit and can even accommodate 3 if you use their piggyback board (which you can purchase separately for about PS120). The dual front swivel wheels with superior maneuverability and a handy foot brake make it extremely secure. In addition, its tray is larger than on most double buggies, and the canopies feature windows that peek out to improve visibility.

This award-winning side-byside double buggy is the slimmest, full-featured all-terrain double that is available. Its footprint is similar to a single buggy, so it is able to fit through doorways and on public transport. Its suspension can handle rough terrain with ease and our Lab experts love that it folds into a compact form within a matter of seconds. The adjustable handlebar features a handbrake for extra security. The seats can be reversible, so you can choose to have the children facing forward or have the parents facing each other - great for siblings and twins of different ages.
